Study Finds Baylis Medical RF Wire Solution Improves Workflow, Provides Time and Material Savings

A study recently published in the Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology has found that use of a Baylis Medical pigtail tip radiofrequency (RF) wire allowed a more efficient transseptal technique, as compared to use of standard transseptal needles. The RF wire can act as a starter wire, exchange rail and puncture device. Researchers found that the RF wire’s pigtail tip, length and stiffness provided procedural efficiencies and time savings by eliminating the need for device exchanges required in routine transseptal workflows. This reduced the need for additional, typically required lab materials. The study included RF ablation, cryoballoon and left atrial appendage closure cases. According to the study’s researchers, improving procedural workflow is an ongoing need for physicians, to facilitate efficiencies in catheterization labs and provide potential benefits to patients. The purpose-built RF wire allowed efficient repositioning on the septum, without the need for rewiring
Minimal pressure was required to cross the septum, due to the wire’s RF puncture technology

The study was led by Dr. Gaël Jauvert, electrophysiologist at the Centre Médico-Chirurgical Ambroise Paré, in France. “The implications of this study are encouraging for physicians looking to address common procedural inefficiencies,” said Dr. Jauvert. “Most importantly, use of an RF wire for transseptal may offer benefits to patients, by reducing procedure time and the number of exchanges.
