Get to know Jordan Joseph-Jackson, our Europe team’s Clinical Specialist!

Question: When did you join Baylis?
Answer: I started at Baylis in 2013 based out of the UK as part of its Europe team, two months after I had graduated from university.

Q: Where did you work and what was your role prior to joining Baylis?
A: Baylis is my first career-oriented job. Prior to joining Baylis, I had two jobs—one that I was passionate about and the other to help support me through my education.

My first job was as a gymnastic coach. I trained competitively when I was younger prior to becoming an assistant coach. As I grew up I was still able to train, just not competitively because of my height. I’m quite tall—I couldn’t stop growing!

My second job was as a head cashier. I did that for three years while I was completing my education.

Q: What is your day-to-day role at Baylis?
A: I can genuinely say I do not have a “day-to-day” role. Every day is different. One week I’m traveling to different countries to support cases. I do my best to maximize the impact I make in a country and I’ll be there anywhere between two and three days. Another week, I’ll be working on our Medical Education program for Europe. Similar to our Medical Education program in North America, it helps advance the transseptal skillset of healthcare professionals through courses delivered by faculty members who are experts in their field.

As a whole, I would say my role oversees the medical education and clinical support for the Europe Team including case support, training distributors, helping physicians with our devices and ensuring stock levels are adequate.

Q: What is it about Baylis and its mandate that motivates you to come to work every day?
A: One great thing about being a part of Team Baylis is that there are so many motivations.

For me, the first motivator is our impact. A lot of the cases I support are complex congenital (disease or abnormality present from birth) and it seems that they are never straightforward. Even if it seems like our part in the procedure is as simple as gaining left-heart access, it’s much more than that. It’s changing a patient’s life and you know you had a part in it. Transseptal access is a critical step in some procedures. Without access, a patient cannot be treated.

The second motivation for me is the people I work with. We’re a small team compared to the U.S. Sales Team or the different teams of engineers. Although we’re spread out across Europe, it’s easy to message a team member who empathizes with you and can easily pick you back up when you’re having a difficult day.

Q: What do you do in your spare time?
A: I like to travel quite a bit. I love driving and I’m happy to drive from one side of the UK to the other. I love to bake and I need to burn off everything I eat. I’m very active and I enjoy going to the gym and playing sports. However, I don’t like cardio. I also enjoy socializing and spending time with my family.
